Patrol Operations
Supervisors and officers assigned to the Precincts to provide around-the-clock law enforcement services to the community. Uniformed patrol officers are the foundation of our public safety services. These are the officers who will be the first ones to you when you call for help. We have five different patrol shifts to ensure officers are available to our community any time of the day.
Traffic Enforcement
We have officers assigned to our traffic unit who provide traffic enforcement and are dedicated to keeping pedestrians and the motoring public safe. Community members can report common traffic complaints like speeding, red light violations, stop sign violations and abandoned vehicles online. Our traffic officers consistently follow-up on these reports and will contact you if you like. You can report these concerns to the precinct or you can call our dispatch at 801-840-4000.
Unified Police Shared Services
Our depth is even greater with the support of the department’s specialized teams and units. These groups are shared amongst all the partners at the UPD. These groups include S.W.A.T., K-9, Investigations Units, Crime Analysis, Collision, Analysis and Reconstruction.
Detective Unit and Community Oriented Policing (COP)
In order to augment and support our patrol function, we have several specialized units. Our detective unit conducts follow-up investigations on crimes such as burglary, theft, fraud, vandalism, domestic violence and drug offenses. Our community-oriented policing (COP) officers assist our detectives with investigations and act as liaisons with the community by managing neighborhood watch programs, spearheading community outreach initiatives, and directing crime prevention programs. With our COP efforts we have detectives that work with a mental health case workers to support members of the community who have been or are in a mental health crisis. Our goal is to help support long term outcomes for these individuals while reducing the need for police calls for service.
School Resource Officers
The Unified Police Department has Officers assigned at the High School and Junior High School levels and we keep in close contact with the elementary and other schools throughout our Communities. Working closely together with our school leaders, the students and community we provide for a safe environment conducive to learning.
